A Future So Bright - Learn From Their Mistakes!

The economy is uncertain about the future of the Internet.
"Not I", said the blind man. "I see a future so bright, we will all have to wear shades."
So many expectations were never realized and dreams became nightmares. The cyber-graveyard is littered with the remains of the expired Dot.coms.
So many business models and so much money yet still they collapsed. And simply because they all made the same mistake; they did not take care of business.
Mistake No. 1
What is the business of business?
Simply, to make money. Ideally, a product or service is provided that is desired by people. The "making money" part comes directly from dealing with people.
They failed to make the money.
Mistake No. 2
All ignored the customer.
A customer walks into a store. They look around. You ask if you can help them. They keep looking. Finally, they begin to pull several items off of the shelf to make a purchase.
Suddenly, the customer turns and leaves the store, without making a purchase.
What happened?
They did worse than not listen to the customer. They never even established communication. The customer was ignored.
All that was needed was to ask for an email address.
That opens the lines of communication. Communication is the the fundamental nature of the Internet. Global communication to be more exact.
Mistake No. 3
They misused the technology.
Of course, this mistake is ongoing. And, it is all about email.
We can communicate on a global scale. That is an awesome power and it exists now, for the first time in human history, for use by individuals. Email is the key!
Yet, how many companies, even those that are still online, fail when it comes to email. I have lost track of the number of times I wrote an email to a company with a question about their product or service and never got a reply.
How can anyone expect to survive online without email?
A report, recently released by the U.S. Department of Commerce entitled, "A Nation Online: How Americans Are Expanding Their Use of the Internet", contains an invaluable WEALTH of information regarding American households connected to the Internet.
Most importantly, the report found the 84% of the people that go online do so because of email!

Mistake No. 4
They are still misusing the technology.
Too many companies, large and small, want the entire process of selling to the customer to be automated.
That is possible in many cases but in too many others, it is a fatal mistake. Again, the huge flaw in that sort of thinking is to ignore the customer.
You are lucky if the automation can close a customer for you but if it can not, then you must be prepared to follow up personally in order to complete the sale.
A HOT prospect should not be ignored and all too often, that is exactly what is happening. Just a little attention can easily close the sale for you on an otherwise lost customer.
Value your customers and they will show their appreciation by being loyal, repeat customers.
The future of the Internet can only shine brighter.
