Each week I get letters from people in despair because they're not "making big money" on the Internet.

Usually, when I'm trying to help them, I find there are 2 main reasons.

1. They haven't learnt the trade, or served their "online apprenticeship"
2. They've sunk their money into no hoper "get rich quick" schemes and spend the rest of their money buying cheap, untargeted traffic.

Ok...here's why people aren't making money online: 1. They haven't learnt the trade, or served their "online apprenticeship" The obvious solution is to get an online business and marketing education. The very best way to do this is learn from the old timers, the people who have been making an online income for a few years now. Learning everything about this business is a must. Look at it this way. You wouldn't expect to leave school, get a job at Wall-Mart and jump straight in as a store manager. You know that the real world doesn't work that way. So why do you think it should be different online? When you get a new job, and you have no experience, you're employed in the lowest paid position where you slowly learn the trade and work your way up. Things on the 'net aren't that much different. You can't expect to start out as "store manager". You've got to learn how everything works first. To do this you've got to immerse yourself in the business - learn everything you can by studying how others are doing it. * Read and learn for free, from the experiences of others, by taking part in the Internet business discussion forums. Just hang around there for a while reading the questions and answers and absorbing it all. Neil Shearing's ScamFreeZone is a good place to start.

* Build a library of ebooks and really study them. Don't just browse idly through a book you buy. Read it time and time again. One book that will lead you through starting an Internet business is 33 Days to Online Profits by Yanik Silver and Jim Edwards.

I'm a big fan of both these guys...and this book is one of the best. It's a step by step blueprint that takes you by the hand and guides you to a successful online business. (as long as you follow the instructions and put the hard work in, of course). * An alternative to ebooks are "member only" sites run by well known web entrepreneurs. I'm also a big fan of Terry Dean's Net Breakthroughs site, and I've been a paying member since it launched a year or so ago. I can't honestly say that about many things...because I'm fairly well known I get lots of free memberships and review copies of books. Terry never offered me one, so I joined out of curiosity and I've been a paying member ever since. An excellent site. Very useful. I can't imagine not remaining a paying member. It's too useful to leave. The advertising results section, where Terry and other people give detailed facts and figures on the results of their website and ezine advertising is particularly useful and saves me a fortune in wasted ads.

Anyway, I'd better sum up here. To recap...this is about why people aren't making money online. There's that old saying "you can't run before you can walk" (well it's something like that anyway). Remember this when you're in despair about not making money online. Learn the trade first. Ok, just one other thing about this. Avoid the get rich quick schemes. Far too often people with a yearning to earn an online income get sucked into spending all their money on worthless programs involving multiple levels of potential income and promises of almost immediate wealth In real life immediate wealth just doesn't happen - unless you happen to win the lottery or a rich relative dies and leaves you everything. You've got to "earn" your wealth. So read Step 1 again :) Learn you trade - don't be in a huge rush. It won't happen anyway. Eventually, if you stick at it and work hard, the money will start to come.
