How To Write Profitable Online Ads
             By Randall Justice

The most common mistake online marketers make is the notion that if they just insert a few ads here and there, the world will beat a path to their cyberdoor, and they'll make sales....lots of sales! But when little or nothing happens, they give up. This is indeed, unfortunate. Why?

Because it simply didn't have to happen in the first place.

Advertising and marketing a product or service is an ongoing effort that must be accomplished day in and day out. This is true for the larger, more experienced online companies, as well as for the beginner. Either way, only one thing really matters in the final analyses, and that is....

...Successful advertising is not in the "Ability" to get an ad published, (anyone can do that) but how to write an ad that's "Effective." This, my friends, is where the rubber meets the road!

In this report, I'll teach you a "short course" in the basic ingredients of a profitable online ad.

Ok, lets get started...

Get Your Readers ATTENTION!!

The Headline or Subject Header of your ad must reach out and grab your prospects attention immediately. Your ad, after all, is competing for your prospects attention against many other advertisers, usually in a row of subject fields in their email in box, in a long page in a web based classified ad site, or listed in an ezine or newsletter with a number of other competing ads. Without acception, grabbing your prospects attention is the single most important strategy in your ad campaign arsenal. For instance, the first example headline below, in caps, is the one I use successfully to promote my free subscription e-zine, "NetProfits Weekly" E-Magazine:

  • Advertise for free
  • ABSOLUTELY FREE EZINE ADVERTISING! Or...
  • Brand new biz opp - make $$thousands$$
  • FREE REPORT - EASY PART TIME INCOME!

Which headline in these two examples jumps out and slaps you in the face? And remember, you must write your ad to your target market. If your target market is "stay at home moms", then write your headline and ad to them, specifically, not to just anyone who stays at home, unless, of course, those folks are your target market as well. Get the picture?

Create a "Tell Me More" Ad

Ok, assuming your headline or subject line has stopped em' in their tracks....now what? Now you want to invoke a "Tell Me More" response from your readers. No problem. All you want to do at this point is to get these good folks to ask for more information. DO NOT try to force feed your prospects the whole enchilada at this point. This is, after all, only their first exposure to your offer and only the first of several steps in your total marketing strategy.

My advice here is to offer a "Free Report" or "Free Details" by autoresponder. This not only will allow you to follow- up automatically with your hard-hitting sales message, but it will also provide valuable information about your respondents. That is, that these folks have shown interest in a specific "Type" of product or service. This is powerful information. As an added bonus, you're also able to capture their email address for your all important follow-up mailings. You would also want to save their email address in your mailing list database for future use.

By the way, your "hard-hitting" sales message may be nothing more than a brief "teaser" of the great things waiting for them if they'll just take a moment and visit your web site. Just make sure you give them a darn good reason to give you their valuable time, and make darn sure it was worth their effort. Be honest. Resist the temptation to over sell. If you do over state the benefits of your product or service, it will become apparent soon enough, and you'll lose your prospect...probably for good.

You Ask For It - You Got It

Ok, you've got your prospects undivided attention with your great headline or subject header. You've created a "I've got to know more" response from the body of your ad....now what? Now you want your prospect to respond, to take action! You do this by asking them to take action or by creating a sense of urgency. In the body of your ad, usually at the end of the ad, consider using phrases like: Email now, act now, call now, go immediately to our web site, immediate reply requested, discount offer expires by..., limited time offer, etc.

By the way, if you're going to ask for action by using limited time offers, make sure it is indeed, limited. Be careful not to insult your prospects intelligence by saying one thing then doing something else. Honesty and integrity is vital to the health of any business, and it's especially true when marketing online. Your prospects must first learn to trust you before they'll ever even consider parting with their hard earned cash. Make sure you treat everyone you come in contact with online with the respect they deserve. And that goes double for the few who may not deserve it. Maintain a professional online image at all times.

Testing - Testing - 1,2,3!

Now that you've created the worlds hottest ad, it's time to put it to the test. Actually, you ought to put together several ads, each one worded and configured a little differently from the next. Change the words around, tweek them, move them, and play with them until you come up with two or three ads that really knocks your socks off! Ads that YOU would respond to!

Now you want to begin testing them systematically. Make sure you test only one variable at a time. That is, test each ad in the same ezine, free ad site, safe-list or whatever, one at a time. If your response is low, try one of your other ads or change the one your currently running.

The point is, you want to keep testing your ads until you have a winner. Remember this. Utilizing the principles of good copy writing we've discussed here, continually and systematically testing your advertising copy, and the desire to continually increase your skills is, in my opinion, what can make or break your total marketing efforts, and ultimately...your business!
