Timeline To Cybersuccess Everybody's getting rich on the internet, right? Wrong. If it were so easy to make a living on the internet, there wouldn't be any employees left in the world! Everyone would just get out of bed, make a cup of coffee and settle in at their computer every morning. The perfect world. Okay, maybe not perfect, but the highways would certainly be a little less crowded! The fact is, this "migration to the home" scenario *IS taking place, slowly but surely. And it's really not too different from the way things were a hundred years ago. Think about it... Before there were highways, or even automobiles for that matter, most people stayed home. They made their living working their farms and livestock. Blacksmiths worked out of their barns. Seamstresses worked in their parlors. People went into town about once a week for Church services and supplies. Is this what it's all coming back to?... Yep, I can see it happening right before my very eyes. Heck, it's already happened to my family. Just 18 short months ago I was one of those commute-crazed highway travelers. Today I take the basement stairs to work. And if it weren't for Russ, my Golden Retriever who demands an occasional hike, I'd find myself going out of the house merely once or twice a week. (I'm not too proud of that fact - even my wife says I really should get out more!) As I get more and more of my supplies online (groceries will be next) I find myself needing to leave the house even less. What's next, online church services? (While some of you cry "Blasphemy!", I hear a few cyberpreneurs scratching their heads - hmmm.. not a bad idea...") Anyway, as I sit in my gym clothes and write this article, I wouldn't have it any other way. And I'm sure there are plenty of folks who have dreamt of doing the same. To you, I say GO FOR IT! It's not as difficult as it may seem. All it takes is a lot of little steps and before you know it you're "Home Free!" Today I'd like to share my own timeline of how I made it happen. Perhaps some of you with similar dreams can use it as a guide. The timeline below outlines all the key steps I've taken along the way... February 1996: Tiring of my long commute and stressful job I decided it was time for a change. Could I make money online? It was worth a little investigation. I purchased my first computer, a used 386 and connected to AOL through the sloooww modem. Total investment: $320 and some TV time. Spring & Summer 1996: Researched internet marketing a few hours every night after my "job". Through trial and error, I learned the best email marketing methods and wrote a manual about my findings. Sold 500 copies of "Internet Email! Beyond the Basics!" using these very same methods. August 1996: Started this very newsletter, The BizWeb E- Gazette by emailing the first issue to my first few hundred subscribers. (Looking back, this was my best move to date!) November 1996: Income from my part-time venture surpasses weekly 9-5 job "paycheck". Resigned job as service manager to work from my home full-time. December 1996: Built my website and registered my domain, bizweb2000.com. Sales increased immediately and I realized my first mistake was waiting almost a year to get the site up. ( Details at http://www.bizweb2000.com/mistake.htm ) July 1997: Released newest book "Insider Internet Marketing" with an innovative reseller program. This immediate hit included "how-to" info on every web marketing technique I had tested and employed since my site went up. January 1998: Income ceased completely when my web host went down. A blessing in disguise! After a long, hard search for a reputable host I moved my site to Third Sphere Hosting. Reliability and 24 hr. support increased profits at my site and the side income from their reseller plan has been an exciting surprise. I hope this timeline helps you with YOUR cyberbusiness dreams. As you can plainly see, cyberspace can pull you along at a rapid pace. All you need to do is put the right tools in place and keep marketing. I'll say that once more... the key to cyberspace success is cybermarketing. Never stop marketing. Utilize ezines, press releases, paid advertising, newsgroups, discussion boards or whatever works best for you. The point is, keep doing it. Marketing is what has kept my cyberbusiness growing and it will do the same for you.
