Once upon a time there were two caterpillars who happened to be very close friends. Being young, they spent their days playing and joking around with each other.
"I wish we didn't have to grow up. Wouldn't it be fun to stay like this forever?" -the first one said.
The second caterpillar had other plans for his life, though. He looked at the sky and dreams of flying would come to his mind. "I wish I could fly like a bird!" -he said.
"YOU WHAT? You must be crazy! WE are ONLY crawlers. We have no business being up there? I'd rather stay young and have fun!" - said the first caterpillar.
The other caterpillar said- "I don't know about you, but I'm going to find out if there's a way for me to learn how to get up there. The view must be FANTASTIC! Just think of all the places we could go to! Why don't you join me? We can learn lots of good stuff, and maybe we'll find out how we can fly. It would be a great adventure!"
"Why bother..." -said the first. "I don't feel like going through all that trouble. What if it's only a crazy idea? I don't want to risk it. In fact, I'm going to ask the Fairy God Mother to let me stay like this for the rest of my life. Changing would be too much of a drag."
As if by magic, the Fairy God Mother appeared and said: "Since you seem like the type that doesn't want to be bothered with learning new things and changing for the better; I grant your wish. You'll remain a caterpillar."
"COOL" -said he. This way I'll stick to what I'm familiar with. Anyway...Who needs to learn new stuff? It's to much of a bother."
Time passed and nature took it's course. The second caterpillar felt a strong desire to isolate himself from the rest of the world. It felt there were great changes comming his way. He HAD to be prepared.
Since he didn't feel the need to play anymore, he said to his friend: "There's something I MUST DO. I don't know what's going to happen, but I HAVE to do it."
"There you go again! You are risking too much. Stay with me and we'll play all the time. It's fun being a caterpillar."-his friend replied.
"Sorry, I can't. There's got to be more to the world than this. I feel the need to change. See you. Wish me luck!"
With that, he turned and left, not knowing what was in store, but sure that whatever it was; would make his life incredibly different. He was scared, but didn't change his mind. "Que Sera...Sera."(Whatever will be...will be.)
"Please don't forget me..." -called his friend from affar, as he was going into the distance. with heavy heart he replied:"I won't...I won't"
Time went by and one day the first caterpillar comes accross the most beautifull butterfly he'd ever seen.
Just imagine his surprise when the butterfly flew in his direction and landed right in front of him.
He was taken aback when the butterfly said: "What's the matter, don't you recognize me? IT's ME!"
"But...It can't be! You were JUST a caterpillar. What happened to you?" he said. He just coudn't believe his eyes.
"We'll.. to make a long story short, I LEARNED how to change from a caterpillar into a butterfly. I had to learn how to weave a thing around me called a cocoon, while hanging UPSIDE DOWN, and holding on for dear life. It was a LOT of WORK. But, Oh Boy! Was it WORTH IT! Now I CAN FLY! The World is SO Different From Up There! Told you It could be done, right?
The caterpillar said: "I'd do anything to be like you and learn how to fly, but I can't waste my time doing all you did. Can you tell me how to do it fast? Are there any SECRETS?"
The Butterfly replied: "There are NO SECRETS. You'd have to do everything I did."
"Oh well...never mind. Maybe being a Butterfly is not worth all the trouble after all. I still enjoy being a caterpillar."
With that, the Butterfly said: "Well, it's a big world out there, got to go."
"But Wait!" said the caterpillar; "won't you stay around and play with me? We are still friends, aren't we? Or are you forgetting where you came from."
Sadly, the Butterfly said:"No, I haven't forgotten my roots. I would like you to meet all my new friends. The problem is...You CAN'T fly, and I can't CARRY you. Remember, you had your chance"
With that, the Butterfly spread its magestic wings and if by magic took off; leaving his friend behind.
Finally, he realized they belonged to two different worlds now.
He was no longer a Caterpillar, but a Butterfly!
