I think what you need to succeed on the Internet is to read more theoretical articles, not more practical, 'how to' articles.
If you do not agree with this, please continue ...
This short article might not be able to totally convince you, but it hopefully will help you see that maybe there may be at least some sense in such a statement.
On with the clarification ...
You do not achieve Internet success if you read and apply 50 randomly selected articles on 50 randomly selected topics by 50 different Internet experts in alphabetic order - by article title.
To say that everyone ONLY wants practical how to tips does not make sense (to me at least). Does that mean that everyone is an expert on the theory behind being successful on the Internet?
If they were such experts, they would not need any practical steps advice. For such experts, steps they must follow flows naturally based on their insightful understanding.
In my opinion, you achieve Internet success by (simplified):
FIRST, get a good, broad, theoretical Internet overview.
You must have some overall theoretical understanding about business in general and Internet business specifically before you start. Spend at least one month on this ... no one else does.
SECOND, plan for your success, based on your theoretical understanding of what you understand you can realistically achieve on the Internet.
THIRD, follow the excellent, easy to follow, practical steps of 'how to' articles relevant to you and your business.
To follow the three steps listed here is just too much effort, people just fast forward to step three immediately: follow steps in easy to follow 'how to' articles.
One way to solve this problem is to do the following:
Get Internet businesspeople to read about Internet theory by writing about it in the form of easy to read and understand 'how to' articles.
One way to achieve this is to have a series of articles that, first of all, clearly explains the financial benefits of understanding theory. (Critical first step, if not done correctly, they will never be interested in reading more of your articles on Internet theory.)
This can then be followed up by a series of articles that explains how to practically apply your understanding of the theory.
Finally, the series can end off with a set of articles that explain how you can combine all these theory articles into your overall plan for Internet success - practical step-by-step articles on how to apply the theory.
At this point your plan may refer to relevant, practical 'how to' articles you are going to act on.
Some articles in such a series could be:
- The practical value of understanding Internet theory principles
- The practical value of understanding the Internet bigger picture context realistically
- How to understand the profit potential of your business realistically
- How to understand the bigger picture Internet environment
- The practical value of having an Internet business plan
- The practical value of having an Internet vision
- How to develop a vision for your Internet business
- The practical value of understanding the power of Internet leverage
- How to apply leverage to your Internet efforts
- Your step-by-step Internet success business plan, based on powerful theoretical principles Using this theory as foundation, you will later read and understand the advanced, POWERFUL stuff, like:
- How to leverage Internet leverage in leveraged, profitable ways
- How to leverage Internet time architectures! (No PhD in time travel required)
- How to leverage global hierarchies of Internet moneymaking structures
Practical articles have more powerful impact if used for the correct reasons and if they are in line with your overall Internet business plan.
Do not just read an article, think, this article is brilliant, and start to act on it immediately. Take at least 5 minutes to consider how this article fits within your overall Internet effort. Then, if appropriate, follow the steps in the article.
(Please do not misunderstand; I have nothing against practical, how to articles. I have followed the steps of a few such articles. All I am saying is: Following all practical, 'how to' articles word-for-word does not ensure Internet success.)
If you always just give people easy steps to follow, all they can do is to follow you, without ever being able to think for themselves. (Quite an effective strategy to lock someone into always needing you - done unintentionally by most.)
If, however, you teach people the theory, the steps to follow comes automatically - over time. Unfortunately, giving away the theory means giving away the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Your theoretical understanding will enable you to write out your own practical steps, specifically targeted for your business in its industry, taking into consideration your current situation only you know best.
So, no one gives away their powerful, relevant, practical theories and methodologies. They just say that you do not need to know anything about topics that are 'irrelevant' for your success. Therefore, newsletters that publish this article truly interested to help you succeed.
I belief that if you know, understand and apply just 10 very powerful, theoretical Internet leverage principles poorly, you will be more success than if you apply 100 practical 'how to' articles perfectly.
I just heard the doorbell. It must be the Guinness Book of World Records. They want to list me as the most stupid Internet businessman of all time! As their evidence, they will also print my freely available article: 'The practical value of Internet business theory' along with my listing ... to think that I actually made the most secret of all Internet success secrets public, and for free.
