These few hours are the make-or-break time for your page, so don't cut corners Attention! If you have a large site with more than, say, 200 pages, be aware that some deep engines (notably Alta Vista) only accept a limited number of submissions for any one domain. I recently chatted with a poor lady who had bombarded Alta Vista, over a number of months, with a lot of submissions. She was distraught because she could no longer submit her pages. Alta Vista was saying "No More". There's no way to delete listings from Alta Vista, so she's gonna have to wait forever until they naturally expire. You have been warned. METHOD A: AUTOMATICALLY It'll also ensure that you don't forget or miss any tricks when it comes to creating your killer listings because everything's built in, so you can concentrate on the important things like your keyword lists. Try the free demo first. METHOD B: MANUALLY... Use the list at the end of this page to load the submission forms for the search engines one by one. For those of you who pay for timed calls to your ISP (like us in the UK), each time you load a page and have it on the screen in front of you, log off so that you're not worrying about your telephone bill. This way, you'll take time over it and do the job properly. DEEP ENGINES Tip! STANDARD ENGINES DEVISE A CAPTION AND DESCRIPTION Description: the bit you read, after the caption. Again, it needs keywords and needs to be appealing. A Yahoo! listing looks like this (caption and description): When you register on Yahoo!, restrict your description to about ten words if you can manage it (Yahoo! advises 20 words, but don't believe it!), otherwise it'll be tampered with and possibly cut down. Yeah, mine's got 20, but I went for broke and got lucky, which is rare. Work as many as possible of your most powerful words into the caption and description, but make sure it makes sense - a list of keywords will be ignominiously rejected!. Caption is more powerful than description but all the same, try to keep the caption short otherwise it'll get chopped, or they'll move part of it to the description which isn't so bad. Keywords in the caption are more important that those in the description, but remember, the caption has to match the title of your page. Consider temporarily changing the title of your page to match a strong Yahoo caption. Once you're listed, you can change it back again. Oooohh, how low-down and dirty can I get?! Note: Don't waste words on the standard engines by repeating them more than once. It won't gain you any advantage at all. CATEGORIES It's best to find relevant categories and then eliminate the ones on your list which have long addresses and/or have a high first letter. Business_and_Economy is a good place to start looking, rather than Regional... Always fill in the 'Additional Categories' section. RE-SUBMITTING YOUR DETAILS! If you don't like the look of your listing or you want to add an extra category on any of the standard engines, you can always go back and visit the "Change URL" page. Be warned that this can be very frustrating though, you'll need the patience of a saint. You'll be given low priority and it may take you several attempts over a number of weeks before you get any joy. At least, during this time, you'll have some kind of listing even if it's not perfect. And while you're re-submitting...
